Visa waiver agreements
The first table contains information on the visa-free travel of Hungarian citizens, while the second one lists the countries whose citizens are exempted from the visa obligation if they are travelling to Hungary and hold a valid travel document entitling them to visa-free travel.
For countries and travel documents not listed below visa is required. Abbreviations of travel documents:
OP.: ordinary passport D.: diplomatic passport S.: service passport/official passport ID.: Identity Card
Pay attention to the fact that both lists include countries where one can travel visa - free only in possession of diplomatic or service passport. Please inquire about seaman (service), sailor, official and special passports at the Embassies or at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

1.) Albania: one entry; in case of use of car toll is 1 EUR/day.
2.) Brunei: from October 6th 2006 travelling for the purpose of tourism or for social purpose to Brunei travellers have to meet the following requirements:
- sufficient financial resources
- ticket for continued travel or for returning
- valid travel documents and any other documents that ensure returning to the country of origin or travelling on to other country after 30 days.
3.) Philippines: the 21 days visa-free period is valid only for the purpose of tourism. Travelling with ordinary passport for the purpose of tourism travellers should be in possession of tickets and other documents for continued travel.
4.) Colombia: Max. 180 days – for the purpose of tourism
Max. 45 days – for temporary visitors (e.g. journalists, correspondents)
Max. 45 days – for technical visitors (e.g. the experts of foreign companies for technical purpose) ATTENTION! The conditions of entry and stay are controlled at the time of entry, and shorter period than the maximum stay can be determined as well.
5.) Mauritius: conditions of entry:
- valid passport (six months after the stay)
- valid air ticket for returning
- entitlement for entry into the country of origin /residence
- financial resources to cover the costs of stay (100 USD/day).
6.) Singapore: 30 days prolongation of visa-free stay can be asked on a form at the Immigration Office. Hungarian citizens may ask for the prolongation twice, which means that they are allowed to stay for 90 days visa-free.
7.) United Kingdom: Special rules for British citizens from January 19th, 2007:
“British citizens” are obliged to visa if the following notes are included in their travel documents:
- British Overseas Territories Citizens (who do not have the right of abode in the United Kingdom)
- British Overseas Citizens
- British Subjects (who do not have the right of abode in the United Kingdom
- British Protected Persons
Visa-free:
- British Nationals (Overseas)
British Overseas Territories Citizens or British Subjects who own residence permit in the United Kingdom are qualified as British citizen – and as citizen of the European Union at the same time – for that reason they are exempted from visa obligation.
8.) European Community: members of the Delegation of the Committee of EC are allowed to enter to the Republic of Hungary visa-free with the mentioned travel documents, and they are allowed to stay there for the period of their service visa-free.
9.) Croatia: citizens of Croatia are allowed to enter to Hungary with ID only if the purpose of their stay is not employment or getting income.
10.) Sweden: Swedish citizens are allowed to travel to Hungary with new plastic identity card (which was issued after October 1st, 2005 and includes data of the owner’s citizenship).
11.) Member of European Economic Area (EEA)
12.) Hungarian nationals are allowed to enter, transit and stay during 90 days on the territory of Montenegro in possession of a valid passport according to the Article 1 of Montenegrian Gov. Decree (26th February 2009). According to the Article 2 of the same Gov. Decree, Nationals of European Union MS’s are allowed to enter, transit and stay during 30 days on the territory of Montenegro with a valid identity card.
13.) Serbian citizens are allowed to travel visa free to Schengen states only with new passport. The old (blue) passport holders should apply for visa.
